Saturday was a a pretty rough day here in Tamarindo. The winds were racing onshore in an apparent effort to get over and join the hurricane over on the Atlantic side. The water stayed pretty choppy for most of the day and the waves stayed close together with very little organization. Today started about the same with onshore winds and a lot of chop in the water. The waves did clean up a bit and managed some organization in the late morning with the tide coming in. They were mostly in the waist high range. In the early afternoon the winds started moving around quit a bit, and the water cleaned up considerably. Once the wind finally managed to kick all the way around and stay offshore the waves took on much better shape with a few lefts and rights staying open for some long rides. The currents were pretty strong pulling over to the River Mouth while the tide was still coming in. Most swell forecasts are still predicting the swell to hit late Wednesday and stick around for a few days. We´ll most likely still see the waves drop slightly before the swell. With the water cleaning up there will hopefully be some solid waist to chest to get us warmed up for the head high plus that´s on it´s way! Tamarindo Beautiful day out on the beach Wednesday with clouds moving through. Waves were not huge but there was the occasional chest high set. Most were between the knees and waist with good shape. Fun little longboard waves the kept up throughout the day. The winds stayed offshore for almost the entire day making for nice clean conditions. As of now (Thurs 8:45am) the waves are still pretty small but there are some nice rights and lefts out near the River Mouth. We may see the waves spike up today to around shoulder high. For the rest of the week we´re still looking at waves between chest and shoulder. High Tide For Thursday at 11:20am Low at 4:50am/5:36pm Time of Post 8:45am Local Time more...

Tamarindo A beautiful day out today with waves picking up a little from yesterday. Shape this morning nice with some solid rights and great lefts. Winds were solid offshore, with most waves in the waist high range with some occasional shoulder sets. The swell should continue to pick up throughout today but as of around 10:30 the wind had turned onshore and as of now, with the tide still moving out there’s not much going on. The swell is looking like it will hit somewhere in the neighborhood of shoulder high tomorrow and then stay fairly stable between chest and shoulder for most of the upcoming week. Another big day around the Northern Coast. Tamarindo started the day fairly decent with some waist to chest high sets looking glassy but closing fast. Waves started to stay open a little longer as we came up on 9 but the wind switched leaving the waves choppy and crumbling fast. There wasnt too much to be excited about until late in the afternoon when the wind began to calm down and the waves began to break a little better. There were some decent lefts and a couple of rights coming out of the river but there was some wait time to find a ride.Over in Palmeras in the afternoon, the waves were heavy and solid head high with some overhead on occasion. The face was bumpy but if you could fight through the current there were some fun waves to be had. For tomorrow we're still on the downward slide as the swell begins to recede but we should still be seeing waves in the head high range. Forecasts have us bottoming out on Saturday in the chest high range before the swell picks up again. Another big day here in Tamarindo. Sets on the Main Break were solid head high with some kicking up a couple feet over. Winds stayed pretty good in the morning with a bit of afternoon chop. Sunset rain cleaned up the water but the closeouts outweighed the open shoulders. Today´s revised forecast was showing overhead, tomorrow shows that we should see the swell drop into the 5-7 foot range. Tamarindo (Photos Las Palmeras) Today we saw the swell drop off a bit. The waves never broke chest high with conditions turning from glassy to fair/choppy around 11am. The River Mouth did see a few sets come in early but there was a very small window in the Mouth. Things never really picked up for the rest of the day with only a little action late in the day at the River Mouth. Tomorrow should be picking up a little although the conditions may not be ideal. Tamarindo(Photos Palmeras 8/5)- Calm day out on the Main break here in Tamarindo today. Yesterdays late session turned out really nice with shoulder high and clean just as the sun hit the water. We Picked up about the same place today with slightly smaller waves running mostly left. The winds this morning were very calm moving sideshore. We saw a few chest high waves breaking in the rivermouth but not a whole lot of action there compared with the past couple of days. Right now its looking pretty small out on the Main with mostly knee to waist high. The winds are calm and conditions are fairly glassy with only a small amount of texture. Todays remaining High Tide at 8pm.
Conditions for tomorrow look like they are setting up to be just a bit bigger than today between shoulder and head high and clean until the early afternoon.

Tamarindo-Nice on Thursday even with the swell receding. The morning session saw some solid chest high and on towards mid morning the River Mouth began to fire up. There weren´t too many barrels that could be pulled into, as most of them collapsed pretty quickly, but there were some fun waves with great shape. The winds stayed solid and offshore until just after noon when they began to move around a bit and the water began to take on some heavy texture. By sunset the swell had dropped off a bit more with only the occasional chest high and most coming in around waist. For Friday forecasts are calling for waves chest to shoulder dropping slightly throughout the day. As of 7am the Main break was glassy with sets coming in just over waist high. Winds are calm moving offshore.

Report for Tuesday, July 19th 2011-Tamarindo-What a day out there today! The morning started off in the 2ft to 3 ft. range, with some occasional 4 ft. sets rolling through. Winds were light off shore and skys were blue. There were plenty of nice little barrels to be had, offering shade time up to anyone looking to pull inside. The offshores stopped in the evening. However with the wind basically non-existent the waves stayed really fun. The swell should continue to hold tomorrow and conditions are forecast to be nice again. All in all, it should be another great day of Costa Rica surfing!

Tamarindo-The waves were building today although we never quit got to the predicted size. The morning was fairly good, clean waist high sets with some chest high standouts. While things looked a bit crazy from the shore, out in the water the waves were great. With the tide dropping there wasnt a whole lot out but around 9am there were a few sets that rolled through in the waist high range that were hollow and steep. The current was a little rough and the winds didnt do a whole lot to smooth out the water but it was still pretty fun with only a handful of people out in the water. Close to sunset is when some decent size began rolling in but the water was textured at best. The shape was pretty good and there were some empty waves that needed a rider.
For Tuesday the reports are calling for waves in the 4-6ft range out of the S and SW. The swell is on it´s way down so the morning tomorrow is definitely the time to get out. Conditions should be clean in the morning with the wind switching up in the early afternoon bringing semi choppy conditions in with it.

Tamarindo-The water cleared up a bit today after the heavy rains we had over the past week had brought all of the mud down from the hills. The swell seems to be picking up a bit as well, with some solid chest high sets coming in late in the day. Winds were moving mainly side shore today, slightly on or offshore, conditions were fair with some periods of more intense chop.
For the beginning of the week predictions are calling for waves to jump up to head high in the early AM. Conditions will be mixed, following the same pattern of late with clean in the morning followed by a mixture of fair to choppy for the remainder of the day.

The day started out nice, with waves rolling in around the chest to head high range. The swell dropped off slightly from the past couple of days, but there were still plenty of fun waves to be had.
The afternoon was when things started to get a bit ugly. A large thunderstorm rolled in and left us with victory-at-sea conditions. A few die-hard surfers stuck it out, but other than that the beach was essentially empty.
Waves tomorrow should be in the chest-high range with the possibility of standout sets. A lot of it will depend on the ocean conditions, as the storm that rolled in this afternoon has carried on throughout the night.

It has been a great day of surfing right in front, the SW and SSW swell brought in shoulder to head-high sets all day. The main break was fun all morning with long lefts that tended to close out at mid-day.
While the sideshore winds began to make it kind of choppy during the day, the Tamarindo rivermouth was really firing later in the afternoon. Once low tide hit, it seemed like everyone was pulling in long overhead barrels or ripping the shoulder.
Be there early tomorrow, the SSW swell is holding and in a few days might even go WSW to feed in Tamarindo Bay. It should be glassy in the am but onshore winds are predicted to be slightly stronger than usual in the afternoon.

Tamarindo-Waves this morning were beautiful with clean head high and slightly overhead sets coming through. The Main and the River Mouth were firing all over the place. Winds stayed calm moving offshore/sideshore until around 8:30 when they began to pick up some strength and chop up the water. Things stayed fairly decent until around 11am when the chop in the water really began to pick up. By 1pm we began to see quit a few white caps and the waves were becoming sloppy and fat. The rain cleaned conditions up around 4pm but there was no more glass in the water for the rest of the day.
For tomorrow forecasts are calling for waves in the head to overhead range out of the SW and SSW. Winds will most likely be blowing sideshore with conditions fair mid-morning and choppy for the rest of the day with winds shifting onshore in the late morning.

Tamarindo-Some great waves out on the Main break today. This morning was super glassy with some great shape and waves coming in around waist to chest high. Waves stayed pretty solid for the day without flattening even with the tide moving out. Late in the day with the tide coming in the waves pushed up with some solid head high sets coming in. The River Mouth was firing as well with some great rights coming out.
Monday´s looking like the swell is building to around head high coming out of the SW and SSW. Conditions may not be as favorable as they were today with winds mainly sideshore in the morning turning onshore in the late morning. Conditions in the morning should be mainly fair with some chop entering the water as the wind shifts.

Tamarindo-A great for some competition here in at the Main break in Tama. The waves this morning were beautiful, with calm offshore winds, breaking in the chest to head high range. Glassy conditions prevailed until just after 9am. Some texture entered the water but we never saw any heavy chop. The River Mouth started kicking earlier than usual, throwing some small barrels and holding some decent size in the chest high range. In the later afternoon the Main was seeing some nice waves rolling left as well as some decent rights out of the river mouth. Waves continued to break in the chest high range with the winds shifting sideshore but not effecting the wave heavily.
For Sunday we should be seeing the swell beginning to build pushing up just slightly overhead by sunset. Winds are predicted to stay favorable moving mainly offshore and then some shifting mixed in around mid-afternoon. Clean to fair conditions for the day.

Tamarindo-We saw some size finally drop into the Main break today unfortunately there wasn´t much organization to go with it. Even with the winds moving offshore in the early morning the waves were somewhat choppy with a short period. The break didn´t do much at midday with the tide dropping low. Closer towards sunset we did see some decent lefts opening up but with the thunder and lightning approaching the water mostly cleared out. After a some rain we did see things clean up a little but there wasn´t much day light left and the water stayed mostly empty.
For Thursday we may see the swell dropping a bit to shoulder high but the conditions are predicted to clean up. Winds will be moving offshore/sideshore in the AM and then moving around quit a bit in the PM. We should see clean to fair conditions for the day.

Tamarindo-Not a whole lot of swell today but the conditions and waves are slowly getting better. Waves were breaking knee to waist high for most of the day with a few stand out chest high sets. The winds switched onshore around 9:30 am and pushed everything down a bit but around noon with the tide coming in there was enough of a wave to break out the long board. Things did improve through out the afternoon and by 4:30 the winds had kicked around offshore and there were fun knee high waves that were holding good shape for some long rides. Sunset was a bit erratic but the ocean was warm, the rain cold, and enough knee high waves to keep things interesting.
For Monday we should be seeing the swell bump up some, although the winds may not cooperate with the increase in size. Waves should be building to between shoulder and head high out of the SSW and S. Winds will stay mostly side shore for the day with fair conditions in the AM and choppy for the remainder.

Tamarindo-Things were still feeling pretty small out on the Main break today. The swell is coming back a little but we were still had periods of 1-2 foot waves. Winds were fairly soft today although they did spend a considerable amount of time onshore. Around 4pm conditions cleaned up a bit with a storm blowing in from the east shifting the winds back offshore. Waves picked up as well with some solid waist high sets rolling in around 5pm.
For Sunday we are expecting waves to continue around waist high here at the Main break. It may be a bit smaller as the swell is now purely coming out of the South. Winds and conditions will once again be a bit shifty with the morning being good and the afternoon being a mix of fair to choppy conditions and sideshore/onshore winds.

Winds around 10am were good moving gentle offshore and side shore. As we passed noon and got closer to high tide the wind shifted onshore and there was just too much water for the swell to push up any solid waves. As the tide moved out the chop coountinued and the waves were scarce and rarely above knee high. A long board afternoon for sure.
For Friday predictions are calling for more waves in the waist to chest high range coming out of the S. We should be seeing some clean conditions again in the morning and with fair to choppy through out the afternoon. The swell should begin building again on Saturday with some decent size coming in next week.
High Tide for Tomorrow at 2:40am/2:49pm
Low at 8:33am/9:03pm
Time of Post 9:30pm Local Time
