Playa Grande (Las Palmeras)-Things were looking a little messy in Grande today when we arrived around 7:30am. With the tide filled in the waves were doubling up and the current was ripping anyone near the inside south in a hurry. As soon as the tide began sucking out the break changed it´s face and things cleaned up amazingly well. The winds continued offshore and the waves were breaking anywhere from waist to slightly overhead with glassy conditions. In the line up the water was so clear that there was at least 6 feet plus of visibility in the water. This was still holding when we finally had to bail out around 11am. Back in Tamarindo it was a good morning but the wind had switched around 9:30 am leaving the break a bit choppy. There were some decent sets rolling through around sunset but not a whole lot above waist high. For Saturday forecasts are calling for the swell to stay in the same range as we saw today. Conditions maybe less than ideal with winds moving sideshore or onshore and the wave period shortening up. Conditions in water should be fair in the morning and early afternoon with a couple hours of heavier chop in the mid afternoon. High Tide for Saturday at 8:52am/9:23pm Low at 2:22am/3:08pm Time of Post 10:15pm Local Time more...

Playa Grande (Las Palmeras)-Headed north today to see if we could find somewhere catching the SSW swell. We arrived at Palmeras around 2:30pm and the waves were definitely picking up but they lacked some organization. We stuck it out, even with the wind onshore, and as the day progressed we saw some decent shoulder and head high sets breaking. There was quit a bit of chop in the water and not too many long rides but the occasionaly great ride was still around. A bit south of us at the Main break in Grande there were some good waves breaking outside in the head to just overhead range, although again, most of the rides were a bit short lived. Tamarindo today was small but fairly clean with some shifting winds. The sunset session was great for longboards. For Tuesday we should see the swell continue it´s upward swing moving into solid head high coming out of the S with a small SSW contribution late in the evening. Winds are predicted to be side shore early moving onshore in the late morning and holding until sunset. Conditions should follow the wind with fair early and choppy for the remainder. High Tide for Tuesday at 5:30am/5:47pm Low at 11:34am/11:52pm Time of Post 9:06pm Local Time more...

Playa Grande (Bula Bula)-Took a run north today up to Bula Bula in Playa Grande. Waves were decent early, around 11am, with the tide still fairly low. There were a few knee to waist high sets and some shape that was ok all be it on the mushy side. Around noon, with the tide filling in and the winds turning onshore, there wasn´t much of a break to speak of. The swell wasn´t carrying enough to make the break. Once we returned to Tamarindo close to 2pm the winds had died down considerably with some clean small waves coming through. We never really saw anything get above waist high for the remainder of the day but if you were on a longboard there was a bit of fun to be had. For Saturday we should see the swell picking up significantly with chest to shoulder predicted coming out of the S and SSW. Winds will hopefully stay favorable until afternoon with conditions turning fair to choppy as the wind turns. High Tide for Tomorrow at 3:23am/3:33pm Low at 9:18am/9:45pm Time of Post 9:06pm Local Time more...

Las Palmeras/Tamarindo-We were seeing a whole lot of blown out waves today. Although, it is a pretty rare sight around these parts. We started off our morning with rains coming in and a short bus hop over to Palmeras. Conditions their were a complete mess with the winds coming hard onshore and waves seeming to come in from every direction. We decided to turn it around and head back to Tamarindo after just a few minutes. Conditions back home were not a whole lot better but there was at least an occasional ride to be had. Things didn´t clean up much as the day wore on but we did see the white caps calm in Tamarindo near sunset with some waist to chest high popping up now and then. For Saturday we are not seeing a whole lot in the way of a break from the wind. Todays´ predictions were a little off so hopefully we will see the winds cleaning up a bit earlier than had been expected. Swell predictions are still calling for slightly overhead waves coming out of the SW and SSW. Conditions for the day are predicted to be choppy but hopefully, like the wind, they may clean up earlier than expected. Playa Grande (Las Palmeras)-With the winds already begining to turn onshore at noon when we headed out over to Grande. I wasn´t expecting a whole lot. And while it was choppy for sure the waves managed to hold up even with some moderate onshore wind. With heights between waist and shoulder with some occasional head high rolling in. Evening in Tamarindo was calm and clean with some really nice shape in those glassy waters. Crowds were fair but managable. Most waves were coming in around waist high. For Saturday we should be seeing waves in the shoulder high range with the conditions fluctuating between fair and choppy. Winds running mostly sideshore for the day. High Tide for Tomorrow at 4:24am/4:37pm Low at 10:24am/10:49pm Time of post 11:26pm local time. more...

Playa Grande (Palmeras)-We made a run over to Palmeras today to see what it looked like. At 1pm when we got there things were calm and clean coming in around waist to chest high. The winds were onshore but that didn´t seem to be affecting shape too drastically. Within a half an hour we started seeing sets coming in easily head high with some standout 1-2 foot over. Once the big sets started rolling in things got pretty rough out in the water but there were some very good rides once you got out. Winds remained onshore for the entire time we were there. Back at home in Tamarindo things were a bit smaller but not by much. At sunset we saw a fair amount of shoulder to head high sets rolling through. With winds staying onshore most waves were closing pretty fast, but there was still a very workable left. For Saturday we should be seeing the swell drop slightly with between shoulder and head high in the AM with winds running sideshore/onshore and fair conditions. Late morning and early afternoon the winds will be turning onshore and bringing some chop into the water. By sunset the swell should be dropping down to shoulder high. All of the swell activity is coming out of the SSW still but we should be losing the short period S swell by the end of tomorrow. High Tide for Tomorrow 5:29am/5:44pm With low tide at 11:29am/11:56pm more...

Early morning session in Grande today was warm and clean. Waves were good, mostly around waist high, with some getting up around chest high. Winds were almost dead moving slightly offshore for most of the morning. As high tide came and went the break had some pretty significant backwash making more waves hard to come by.
Right now in Tamarindo the wind is moving slow, but onshore. Waves are coming in around knee high with the tide moving out. The shape isn´t too bad for a long board as the sandbars seem to be working well with small waves and onshore winds. The water has a little chop but is in fair shape.
For Saturday we should be seeing similar conditions to today with waves fore casted between waist and chest high. Clean conditions and offshore winds for the AM with fair to choppy and onshore in the PM. Sunday will be a bit smaller with similar wind and conditions as Saturday.
Surf @ Playa Grande, on May 10th
Fair
Headed out to Palmeras this morning to a bit more south facing break. The swell was close to predicted size in the waist to chest high range. There were a couple of standout sets around shoulder high. Winds were moving steady offshore with clean conditions in the water. The waves were a little disorganized at high tide but found some order as the tide receded. Currently in Tamarindo the winds have moved onshore with waves around knee high. No great shape but the tide is dead low right now and we could see things shape up a little later today. Winds are predicted to stay onshore with some chop in the water for the rest of the day but there have been some pretty decent days as of late with similar conditions so keep an eye out.
For Wednesday fore casts are calling for waist high for the day with the majority coming out of the SSW and a small southern component coming back. Winds will be mild but still coming onshore in the afternoon with conditions clean in the morning and fair with a short period of choppy for the afternoon.
